US Youth America’s Cup Team Trains Under OPEX Fitness

OPEX Fitness HQ Remote Coach Mike Kuschner will train the Next Generation USA Red Bull Youth America’s Cup (RBYAC) team in their preparation for the RBYAC.

Twelve teams of the world’s top youth sailors have been chosen to compete in the second Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, held in Bermuda in June 2017. The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup is a proven pathway to the America’s Cup, representing the opportunity of a lifetime for these young sailors.

The Next Generation USA Team was selected this January to represent the United States at this premier event for Youth Sailing. Six athletes represent the team and each of them have shown great promise as athletes in the sport of sailing.

OPEX Fitness will help each of these athletes reach their potential for the RBYAC happening this June in Bermuda.

Each of the athletes have a unique journey that they will embark on to reach their goals and potential in their respective positions on the team.  On the AC45F, the athletes must be strong but also have a tremendous aerobic capacity.  They must be agile and have great stability and strength of their shoulders and hips to effectively transfer power through the maneuvers.  They also must be mentally sharp, with such a physically demanding boat nutrition is going to be key.  Remote Coach Mike Kuschner has spent the last week having individual consults with each of the team members to gain base line assessments of their movement, strength, aerobic capacity, nutrition, and lifestyle habits.

It is not often in our life that we are blessed with an opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in our goal.  These six athletes will have a unique opportunity by taking every measure to become the best athletes’ they can be in order to give their best against 11 other teams at the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.

Meet the team here and follow their journey towards the RBYAC with OPEX Fitness
