Mike Kuschner

Both fitness and competitive sailing are closely connected for Mike Kuschner who began sailing on the inland lakes of Minnesota.  Mike has been a world-class competitor and leader ever since beginning the sport of sailing. Mike relocated to San Francisco for his high school years, which greatly expanded his sailing horizon both nationally and internationally.  While in San Francisco, Mike led his self-started high school sailing team to successful seasons and quickly became a competitive sailor at the national level. Mike was the captain at the St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM) College Sailing Team where he became a two-time National Champion crew and after completing his degree spent a year as an assistant coach for the SMCM Seahawks. Through Mike’s early sailing career he gained interest in competition at the Olympic level and in 2005 he took the opportunity to train and compete in the Tornado class for a bid in the 2008 Olympics.  This began a long-term dream for Olympic level sailing, resulting in two more Olympic Trial efforts in the 49er class at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Trials. The experience allowed him to develop a passion to inspire, empower, and enable sailing athletes to accomplish their goals through fitness. Mike became a personal trainer with CrossFit qualifications while in graduate school for Marine Science at the College of William & Mary.  During this time he was able to accomplish his own personal fitness goals related to sailing as well as develop a passion for helping other sailing athletes reach their highest potential through nutrition, fitness, and mental training.
